Designing at the Scale of the Space

Hospitality artwork has to do more than fill an empty wall. At this scale, it becomes part of the environment — responding to the architecture, the identity of the property, and the experience of moving through the space.

For the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida, I created a large-scale lobby artwork inspired by the visual language and energy of music.

The composition layers musical imagery, graphic textures, abstraction, and contrasting forms to create something that feels familiar without becoming literal. From a distance, the piece has a strong graphic presence. Up close, the layers and details begin to reveal themselves.

Scale was an important part of the design. The artwork needed enough visual weight to hold its own within the architecture while still feeling integrated into the surrounding environment.

That’s what interests me about creating artwork for hospitality spaces: the piece doesn’t exist in isolation.

It becomes part of the place.
